Is my boyfriend abusive?

He gets anry very quickly over small things and slams doors or objects. One day I came into the room and my cat was shivering in the corner. Weeks afterwards my cat would shiver or hide when he heard my boyfriends footsteps. My homeforeclosed and I have no where to go so I'm trapped. I can't part with my animals, that would kill me.
