A tragic music video, failed reconciliation due to listening to headphones misses love?

I have so little to offer, but I'm tryin to find the music video, possibly from the 80's, it's tragic, about a couple that parts and both attempt to reconcile but tragically miss out on the oportunities to do so. i.e. one is listening to headphones when the other knocks at the door in an attempt to get togetner again."
